Chinese steel manufacturer Baoshan Iron & Steel has rolled the first bar on the Kocks Reducing & Sizing Block (RSB) installed in its new SBQ rolling mill. With this investment, the steel producer has strengthened its market position and is further expanding its business activities in the field of high-quality special steels.
By choosing to equip its new rolling mill with a reliable, new-generation Reducing & Sizing Block, Baoshan Iron & Steel is extending the fruitful partnership that began in 2002 with the pivotal investment in an RSB 370/4 for the high-capacity SBQ. The rolling mill “Shanghai No. 5” has installed the new Kocks RSB 300++/4 with advanced 3-roll technology, integrated as a finished block in the combined SBQ wire rod and bar mill, with an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes and rolls of bar-in-coil steel, and also supplies the pre-cross-sections for the wire rod line. The rolled products vary between diameters of Ø 18.00 to 50.00 mm for bar-in-coil steel and between final dimensions of Ø 7.5 to 28.0 mm for the wire line. The RSB was delivered with the advanced design recently awarded an iF Design Award. The scope of supply also included a remote control for stands and guides, which allows operational parameters to be adjusted from the control stand. In addition to the roll shop equipment, Kocks installed a software and hardware package that assists operators in preparing 3-roll stands and guides and supports the tooling process in the roll shop.
