India's Hindalco, a global leader in aluminium and copper, Aditya Birla Group, has has awarded Metso for the supply of engineering and key equipment for a new precious metals refinery. The refinery in the Indian state of Gujarat will be associated with the new e-waste recycling plant.
“The new plant will allow Hindalco Industries to increase their production of precious metals,” says Lauri Närhi, Director, Sales, Smelting at Metso. The Metso scope of delivery consists of a KaldoTM furnace with off-gas handling and silver refining equipment. Metso will also deliver basic engineering for the precious metals refinery. According to the company, the precious metals refining technology ensures high recovery, low operating costs and high-quality products, all achieved within a short processing time. The process is highly automated, offering a safe working environment and zero toxic gas emissions. Metso offers industry leading technology and equipment for the complete copper processing value chain – from ore to cathodes and associated byproducts. Metso's Outotec Precious Metals Refinery technology is used for treating copper anode slime to recover high value precious metals.
