Danieli has awarded Jindal Steel Sohar with a recognition for the record performance achieved at its steelmaking facility in Oman, operating a 220-ton electric arc furnace (EAF) supplied and commissioned by Danieli in 2014.
The plant in Sohar recently set a monthly record of 235,112 tonnes of liquid steel with its EAF supplied by Danieli in 2014, corresponding to an annualized output exceeding 2.5 million metric tons of cast steel. According to Danieli, the production record is due to the recent upgrade of the EAF with the Q-MELT adaptive process control system. The process control system optimises furnace operation, enabling 96.5% plant availability. The furnace is operated with 61% hot direct reduced iron (DRI), 37% cold DRI and 2% hot briquetted iron. This enables it to achieve a productivity of 324 tonnes per hour and a power consumption of 493 kWh per tonne. Source: Danieli
