The trade association is taking an important step in its further development: with the approved name change to "Metallurgy & Thermoprocessing", it is strengthening its international focus and increasing the visibility of key industry topics, as Dr. Timo Würz, Managing Director Metallurgy & Thermoprocessing at VDMA, explains.
Why the name change has taken place: The Metallurgy trade association was formed in 2017 from the merger of the three former trade associations Foundry Machinery, Metallurgical and Rolling Mill Equipment and Thermoprocessing Technology. Since then, these areas have been continued as specialist groups within the association - with many overlaps in terms of content and closely interlinked industry topics. The previous name "Metallurgy" has had a positive effect on the positioning of the trade association. Nevertheless, it became increasingly apparent that thermal process technology was not visible enough in the overall picture. In particular, companies from the glass, ceramics and other process industries as well as component suppliers such as combustion technology or fuel management systems did not always have a clear recognition value in the association's name. What are the advantages of the new name?
Greater visibility for thermal process technology within and outside the association
Clearer international orientation thanks to the standardized English name
Strengthening the representation of all specialist groups, particularly in relation to markets and partners that are not directly involved in metal production
No changes in content: The technical work and structure of the organization remain unchanged
With "Metallurgy & Thermoprocessing", the trade association is sending out a strong signal for a modern, transparent and internationally compatible positioning. The renaming recognizes the diversity of the companies represented and creates a clear basis for the successful further development of the joint work. Source: VDMA
