ArcelorMittal has appointed Rainer Böse as CEO of ArcelorMittal Germany. The 57-year-old manager will fulfil this mandate in addition to his role as CEO of the plants in Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt.
Böse takes office in a challenging environment. “Politicians must act now. It’s no longer five to twelve – we passed twelve long ago! The only way we can continue investing in our aim to make steel production climate-neutral is if the framework conditions allow it,” says Böse. The pronounced and prolonged sluggish demand for European steel products continues to be accompanied by unfair competition against extensive imports into Europe. So far, in terms of energy and CO2 costs, it has proved impossible to compete with countries outside Europe. Böse reports an urgent need to close the loopholes in the planned CO2 border compensation for the import of steel with a higher CO2 burden. In addition, he explains, it is vital to set a competitive industrial electricity price without delay, and when it comes to trade protection, effective tariffs in Europe are more necessary than ever before. Rainer Böse, 57, has held various positions at ArcelorMittal in the past. Most recently, Böse was Chief Marketing Officer for the industrial customer business of ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products in Northern Europe from 2017 to May 2025, before becoming CEO in Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt.
