Chinese steel producer Hubei Shunle has implemented two EAF Quantum electric arc furnaces from Primetals. With 50 melts per day, the EAFs hold a world record in electric steel production, according to the plant manufacturer Primetals.

The Salzgitter Group, through its subsidiary Salzgitter Flachstahl, is investing in a new hydrogen-compatible walking beam furnace from Tenova Italimpianti. In these special furnaces in the hot strip mill, slabs are heated to up to 1,300 degrees Celsius before being rolled into steel strips (coils).

One year after signing the contract, China's Zhongshou Special Steel Group and Primetals have installed the first rolling stand of the Arvedi ESP plant at the Zhongshou site in Luanzhou in the Chinese province of Hebei. The next step will be to install the remaining five rolling stands to complete the configuration with four high-reduction and five finishing mill stands.

For the time being, steel corporation ArcelorMittal will not be converting its blast furnace-based locations Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt to climate-neutral production using hydrogen. Planning uncertainty was making it impossible to continue its DRI-EAF plans, the steelmaker said. This means that the company will not be claiming state funding.
