At its Zawiercie location, CMC Poland operates a scrap-based steel meltshop and a bar and wirerod mill that uses billets from the melt shop as feed stock. CMC Poland is now investing in a major rolling mill upgrade performed by Danieli Automation.
With this project, CMC Poland aims to enhance the rolling mill’s performance. Danieli Automation will revamp hardware and software components to achieve more effective process control, deeper automation, easier maintainability and higher availability.
Key areas of the revamp
Specifically, this will include equipping the roughing and intermediate trains of the mill stands with new, low-voltage inverter drives. Another focus is the reheating furnace that heats the billets produced in the meltshop to the correct rolling temperature. The operating accuracy of the reheating furnace is critical to the quality of the rolled products. To ensure that the rolling temperatures are accurately set, Danieli will upgrade the hardware and software for the Level 1 automation system and supply a new process control system designed to automatically set the heating curves. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2023
At Zawiercie, CMC Poland produces about 500,000 t/year of bar and wirerod products for a wide range of industries, such as construction, agriculture, energy, machinery and consumer goods.
CMC Poland is part of global CMC group, which has its roots in Dallas, Texas. Today, CMC is a Fortune 500 company with hundreds of sites around the globe.
