At the EU's High Level Group on the European Steel Industry on wednesday evening (4/12/13), Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani declared that there could be no Europe without a strong, competitive steel industry. The EU member states supported the Commission in this view. Many member states expressed their concern about the impact of current climate and energy policies on the global competitiveness of the sector and called on solutions to be found quickly. On the very same day, Mr. Wolfgang Eder, CEO of voestalpine, has accepted the request of the Board of Eurofer to extend his mandate as President of EUROFER until end June 2014. His successor will be nominated in the course of the first half 2014.
