Salzgitter AG continues the transformation of its integrated steel work. During the first extension phase of SALCOS®, a symbolic ground breaking ceremony was held for the main power distribution station of the direct reduction plant. The main power distribution station will supply electric power to the entire plant in the future.
During the transformation, a team of 35 from consulting company Drees & Sommer SE, which specialises in construction and real estate, will support the owner of the building by offering numerous services. Drees & Sommer SE is headquartered in Stuttgart.
Martin Zappe, head of the SALCOS® program at Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, explains:
“Right now, we are in the middle of implementing the first phase. For example, there is foundation work happening. In many places in the plant you can already see the changes! The main power distribution station is important for SALCOS®, as it will become the control centre and energy supply for the entire direct reduction plant.”
Every one of the 13 subordinate projects is relevant for the overall success, says Zappe during the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the subordinate project involving the main power distribution station for the direct reduction plant. In the year 2024, construction of the building will be complete after a planning phase that lasted about a year.
The building will house the entire electricity supply and distribution, as well as the automation and process control system needed to operate the entire plant.
Senior project manager Rojda Nevra Ucar summarises the tasks in which the consulting team from Drees & Sommer supports Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, as follows:
“We are involved in many different subordinate parts of SALCOS®. Simply put, we take care of coordinating everyone involved in planning and construction, we make sure that everything goes smoothly during planning and on the construction site, and we keep an eye on the costs and on the milestones of subordinate projects.”
Among the services offered by the team of 35 from Drees & Sommer are, for example, project control and project management, technical project control of the systems, or risk management.
Salzgitter Flachstahl AG hired the company Papenburg as a contractor for constructing the main power distribution building, the planning was carried out by the bureaus GRBV and IB Zammit.
