Tap Hole Drilling Machine – Smooth, Accurate Drilling

Robust and Safe Tapping Technology

The tap hole is one of the most highly stressed areas of the blast furnace; long downtimes occur in case of problems. This is why it is important to protect this area as much as possible through accurate, gentle drilling and correct plugging.

Our drilling technology covers the complete performance range, from pneumatic through hydro-pneumatic to fully hydraulic drilling. A high drilling torque plus optional hammer with adjustable frequency and impact force guarantee that the tap hole can be drilled as gently as possible. Naturally, this can be done fully automatically or manually.

In some cases, high forces are needed to pull a stuck drill rod from the tap hole. We offer you real full reverse drill hammers, not just “retrac hammers”, to avoid rods sticking during retraction and thereby prevent machine damage from the very outset.

Thanks to their modular design and the complete range of drilling performances covered, TMT tap hole drilling machines are used in blast furnaces worldwide, from the very smallest to the largest furnaces with highest output.

Clay Gun – Correct, Repeatable, Safe Plugging

Easily Process the Most Demanding Clay Masses

The best tap hole drill is useless when the tap hole is not correctly plugged. Therefore, the top priorities when plugging are a reliable plugging process and best possible protection of the tap hole. With this in mind, we develop and produce rugged, high-precision clay guns.

All details of the plugging equipment are coordinated to provide an optimised plugging process. The “Soft-Touch” function allows a smooth and gentle approach to the tap hole. The motion geometry of the slewing system enables a linear travel path along the tap hole axis with consistently high contact pressure. At the same time, the plugging compound in the barrel is constantly maintained at the ideal processing temperature by means of heating and/or cooling. Thanks to the PLC control, the slewing and plugging functions can be fully automated and are reproducible. This avoids damage to the tap hole and minimizes maintenance and repair times, and as a result, downtimes.

Because of the tough working environment, our commitment to high quality applies even to the smallest details of TMT clay guns; they are designed to be wear-resistant to minimize the risk of breakdown. Wear parts are designed for cost efficiency and can be replaced quickly and easily to keep maintenance costs as low as possible.

Cover Manipulator – Flexible Integration

Safe and Efficient Casthouse Dedusting

The tapping technologies used in your casthouse must make the entire process clean, economic and above all safe. As well as tap hole plugging and drilling machines, we offer suitable custom-built cover manipulators for integration into your casthouse dedusting system.

For greatest layout flexibility, TMT cover manipulators combine tilting, linear and slewing movements with rail-mounted, tuyere platform mounted or low-profile floor-standing structures. For safe and reliable operation, the manipulators are equipped with a lifting force capable of pulling sticking covers free from the runners. For optimum coordination of the clay gun, tap hole drill and cover manipulator, a common PLC- and hydraulic control system is used. This allows cost-effective automation and synchronisation of the entire process.

Naturally, we adapt cover manipulators precisely to your individual casthouse layout, dedusting needs and work flows, to carry out plugging, drilling and runner covering as ergonomically, quickly and efficiently as possible.
