This casting technology was originally developed for the jewellery and dental industries, for the production of comparatively small parts. As the production time is relatively short compared to conventional shell building, it is also being applied more and more for Rapid Prototyping. In the embedding machine a chalky powder is mixed with water under vacuum and poured over the wax part, housed in a small metal container, the so-called flask.
After solidification of the plaster, the flask is heated to a casting temperature of 300 – 500 °C, step by step. It is then cooled down depending on the material.
After the cast the part is de-bedded by means of a high-pressure water-jet to release the part from the plaster. The part is then sent for finishing.
The new technique was developed for the high-speed drying of water soluble slurries. All customary waxes and sands can also be processed without any problems.
The advantages: The shell construction time is reduced by the factor 20 – 30. Saving of material of up to 25 %. The shell strength and permeability is increased.
All systems are manufacture individually according to customers specifications; no system equals the other one. The basis is a stable steel frame which is clad with steel sheet. The actual drying chamber and the sophisticated aerodynamic mixing zones consist of 3-D-sheets.
MK Technology GmbH was founded in 1997 by graduate engineer Michael Kügelgen. The company is situated in Grafschaft, close to Bonn and deals with the development, production and sales, of specialist machines for vacuum and metal casting in the field of Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Production.
As with many other technology companies MK Technology started to produce in a large cellar and garage. Meanwhile, a modern production unit with 17 employees has been established, with further jobs being created during the current year. Sales, installation, training and maintenance within Germany are organised directly by MK Technology. A network of dealers has been established for the international market and organizes sales, installation, training and maintenance for all MK products. 70-80 % of the MK machinery is exported all over the world.
