TOP GAS ENERGY RECOVERY
Mitigating the environmental footprint of its technological solutions is one of the daily challenges of Paul Wurth. In the blast furnace sector, Paul Wurth is continuing to exploit the energy-saving potential of the BF process and has further optimised its highly efficient Top gas Recovery Turbine (TRT).
By leading the blast furnace off-gas stream through an expansion turbine, installed downstream of the gas cleaning equipment, the kinetic energy contained in the pressure of the blast furnace gases is transformed into electricity. For a large blast furnace with high top pressure, the gas recovery results in substantial electric energy savings and contributes, in a sizeable way, to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
